This is not the school for an older student! This school could never figure out I was not going to live in the dorms and my parents were not paying for my education. I would think my birth date would have clued them in.

I went here because I was afraid of the budget cuts with public universities and Cal was next to impossible to get into. I should have done more research on how they handled older students, but I knew many had transfered to their nursing program with no problems.

The English department at this school leaves much to be desired. I found out I took three of the wrong classes right before my graduation! My advisor did not understand I was a transfer student, so I wasted my first year at this school taking classes I had already taken at my jc. Great! The English classes were not that hard.

I did meet some great people here and the alumni association is good, but only time will tell if it was worth it. If you are over the age of 25 and not going into nursing, don’t waste your money on this school.

I think Big A is being a little unfair to the school. Don’t mind his/her ranting based solely on the diversity. Apparently he/she is not in the Pharmacy program, where diversity is the first thing you notice.

Anyway… I give this school 5 stars. Why, you ask?
Well… setting aside the fact that the school itself seems very diverse (at least in the pharmacy school), and it boasts several top ranked programs (i.e. nursing, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, PhD, etc…), I absolutely love the location of the school, the resources available, library, the life around the community, and the student body (which i met some time ago). There are a lot of nice charming places to eat, and being located near the park doesnt hurt either.

Hey guys… It’s a UC… expect a great education.

My interview for pharmacy school will be this Friday… wish me luck!

Being Appropriately Compensated As A Nurse

Nursing has a long and compelling heritage and it’s common knowledge that nurses play a key role in providing primary health care. These individuals represent a bigger or significant proportion of professionals, more than 50% actually, of the health care service sector. Whether or not you are a registered nurse or someone who wants to be one, it’s valuable that you understand your obligation as an advocate who cares for patients, promotes community health and functions proficiently in a health care team. In general, you can find numerous subspecialties which you could focus on as a nurse and each discipline provides specific challenges, training courses, earnings and professional growth. By way of example, a staff nurse in an intensive care unit requires specialized know-how and earns more money compared to a school health nurse in the suburban area. Even so, these professionals deal with a similar objective in mind, top quality care.

If you ever consider the salary disparities or the compensation, labor reports indicate that the yearly nurse’s salary runs from $30,000 to $100,000 and this is estimated to rise by 10 percent in the upcoming years. You might expect that differences rest particularly on the various types of nursing roles found, the area of practice, the instruction and relevant experience, qualifications and so on. Even though it isn’t just about the money, people might be hard-pressed to imagine that financial resources in healthcare make no difference.

In many cases, nurse practitioners are offered awesome payoffs including cost free lodging, sign-on bonus deals and other perks with the intention to get them to work in high risk places or situations and this would not improve the demanding working scenarios currently. The things these health care professionals require are satisfactory salaries to sustain the tough work timetables and circumstances particularly when a solid or uninterrupted high quality health delivery approach is necessary. They must equally be presented with appropriate raises and long-term pay out for taking continuous instruction or training under a hospital or school course given that acquiring updated credentials influences the level of care that they can render.

There are some hospitals, presently, which give pay differential in line with the duration of the nurse’s service or obtaining a Bachelor’s degree the moment they start working. This can certainly persuade numerous nursing staff to work efficiently, enhance their expertise and stay at the bedside. Overall, being a registered nurse and fulfilling a care giving role may be challenging yet it’s one of the gratifying professions in the industry.
